According to a review published by the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa), nearly three in 10 (28%) processed foods sold in Brazil contain excessive sodium. According to the report, products that did not meet the sodium standards included prepared seasonings for cooking rice and meat, savoury biscuits, pre-made cakes without fillings, hamburgers, refrigerated mortadela, pre-sliced toast, mozzarella and cheese. One of the biggest concerns is bolognese, where almost no products made the grade during the two years Anvisa sampled them.
