Myanmar media reported that the reference price of domestic edible palm oil in Myanmar reached 6,170 KYat, while the external market price was as high as 18,000 Kyat. Palm oil sellers and Yangon residents said that because of the huge gap between the reference price and the external market price, people had to queue up at retail stores selling at the specified price, and mixed oil began to enter the market in the edible palm oil market. Due to the difficulty in purchasing palm oil and the high price, some grassroots people in Yangon and small shops that make fried food have changed to buying pork fat for lard use.
