In the biggest bird flu outbreak in history, 37 countries culled 48 million birds in Europe.

An unprecedented high level of highly pathogenic avian influenza viruses has been detected in wild birds in European Union countries between June and August 2022, according to a research report published by the European Center for Disease Control and Prevention, CCTV News reported.
Seabird breeding grounds along the Atlantic coast have been particularly affected. The study reported that five times as many infections occurred on poultry farms between June and September this year compared to the same period in 2021, with 1.9 million farm poultry culled during that period.

The European Centre for Disease Control and Prevention said flu outbreaks in animals could have a serious economic impact on the farming industry and could pose a threat to public health because some variants of the virus can be transmitted to humans. The health agency assessed the risk to be low for the general population and low to moderate for people who have regular contact with birds, such as farm workers.
37 countries affected in Europe’s largest outbreak of bird flu in history

In other information, the European Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (ECDC) warned on October 3 that Europe is experiencing the largest outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza on record, with a record number of cases and geographical spread.
The latest data from the ECDC and the EU Food Safety Authority show a total of 2,467poultry outbreaks to date, with 48 million birds culled on affected premises and 187 cases detected in captive birds and 3,573 cases in wild animals.

The increasing number of bird deaths will inevitably lead to the emergence of other viruses, which will also increase the harm to people. When dealing with dead birds, it is important to use professional and rendering  treatment methods to avoid the occurrence of secondary accidents. The flu outbreak will also push up the price of poultry and eggs.copys
