China has become the largest importer of Russian poultry and beef in the first quarter of 2021, according to the agricultural center under the Russian Ministry of Agriculture.
It is said:”Russian meat products were exported to more than 40 countries in January-March 2021, and despite the structural change, China remained the largest importer of Russian poultry and beef in the first quarter.”
China has already purchased USD 60 million worth of meat products in three months, while Vietnam is the second largest importer with USD 54 million worth of imports in three months (up 2.6 times), mainly pork. In third place was Ukraine, which imported USD 25 million worth of meat products in three months.
China significantly increased its production of broiler chickens by 2020, resulting in reduced import demand for the product and lower prices in the Chinese market. As a result, China’s share of Russian poultry exports has fallen from 60 per cent to 50%.
Russian beef exporters, who were allowed to enter the Chinese market in 2020, exported 3,500 tons worth $20 million in the first three months of this year.
According to the Agriculture Center’s experts, beef exports to China and the Persian Gulf countries will continue to grow until 2025, so Russia’s total exports will reach 30 million tons by 2025 (a 49% increase from 2020).
