Brazil’s Agriculture Minister Carlos Favaro officially announced at a press conference that an outbreak of Newcastle Disease has occurred on a poultry farm in Rio Grande do Sul, the southernmost state of Brazil, and the government has quickly activated an emergency response mechanism to control the spread of the disease. According to the minister, the outbreak has killed about 7,000 birds at the farm, with a mortality rate of up to 50 percent, and chicken exports to China and other countries have been suspended.
