Avian flu outbreak in Philippines kills 3,000 birds
According to the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE), on March 23, 2022, the Philippine Department of Agriculture notified OIE that an outbreak of H5N8 highly pathogenic avian influenza occurred in the Philippines.
The outbreak occurred in Santa Ana, Pampanga, and was confirmed on February 28, 2022. The source of the outbreak is unknown or uncertain. Laboratory tests found that 2,730 birds were suspected of being infected, of which 10 became ill, and 2,730 were killed and disposed of.
The outbreak is not over yet, and the Philippine Department of Agriculture will submit weekly follow-up reports.
