Nearly 34,000 pigs on 12 farms in Lombardy have been culled to curb the spread of African swine fever. Lombardy is the main pig producing region in Italy. African swine fever has been found in 883 pig farms across Bosnia and Herzegovina, and more than 4,400 pigs have been wasted rendering plant, Republika Srpska has 851 pig farms handling 38,303 pigs. More than 9,000 pigs will be culled to prevent the spread of African swine fever at a farm in the southern part of the country’s Perva county, Egger Savo, head of the southern region of Estonia’s agriculture and food ministry, said. Since 2007, when genotype II African swine fever entered Europe in the Caucasus Mountains, 23 countries have reported African swine fever virus, incomplete statistics, and nearly 100,000 pigs have died or been killed in the past two months.
