According to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), on 21 July 2021, Ghana’s Ministry of Agriculture reported to OIE 6 cases outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza TYPE H5 in Ghana.
The outbreak, which occurred in Greater Accra (5 cases) and Central Ghana (1 case), was confirmed on 8 July 2021. The source of the outbreak is unknown or uncertain. Clinical and laboratory tests found that 9,597 birds were suspected to be infected and all became ill, of which 5,097 died and 4,500 were killed and disposed of.
The outbreak is ongoing and Ghana’s Ministry of Agriculture will submit follow-up reports on a weekly basis.
